This is good but I think its better not to trace the face but to do it yourself from observation. No offense intended. Just an opinion.

yup your definitely correct. tutorials are for beginners so its a good moral booster if their first lessons are easy to do right? besides, even tracing a face is hard enough let alone to draw one using pen tool. its not a cheat to trace vectors, its the skills of achieving a realistic effect on it can give you an edge.
